I was wondering if you have a green restaurant which is better? To use eco-friendly paper plates and metal or no utensils or standard lead free green plates, glasses & utensils for the diners?

I would think if one did the latter it would waste water and put more chemiclas into the environment (are there board of health approved "natural" dishwasher sanitizing agents?) and if paper plates were used might they be put into a compost pile if the food taht was on them was purely organic? If a vegetarian restaurant then might all uneaten scraps be composted?

Thanks,

Donald

That's a great system. I hope more restos go green!

I think they should require restaurants to use the "Green Bin". The restaurants around me have bins for card board, compostables and trash.

Recycled products help to minimize the usage of virgin materials. We all should buy products that can be recycled. So, guys lets conserve energy and go green!

I do agree that restaurants should have the proper recycling bins. I can't see them serving food on paper plates? Not nice restaurants anyway. I do agree that they should use real plates, etc. and then wash them.

I think it's a good idea for restaurants nowadays to use green equipments inorder to save energy. I've seen green commercial refrigerators, dishwashers and coolers for sale in the market. These equipments are designed to go green.

I don't know just how green this is but down here in Texas there are some restaurants that slow cook thier meats, like brisket, and serve it to you on butchers paper. I like it like that cause I get to eat with my fingers and it brings out the cave man in me and my gal just loves it when I get like that. ;)

I would like to see a true Earthship restaurant. Solar ovens for cooking, solar heat and electricity to LED and CF lights, water recycling system, and a section just for growing vegetables. Rainwater catchment and low flush toilets to the black water system. Use of locally made products from meat and vegetables to earthenware for "glasses" and plates. A wind generator for heavy electric grill loads and solar hot water. Only open on sunny days (or use of super high efficiency cookers)! Promoting healthy low meat , high anti-oxidant meals. Large red worm composters for scraps. Cloth napkins to be washed in a Staber solar washing machine. Dishes washed in a similar low water/power use high efficiency solar dish washer. Grey water to garden unit. No paper or plastic use, and minimal aluminum can and glass bottle use, for recycling or re-use. The tilted glass windows would have insulated automatic rolling shutters, the gardens automatic solar sensing drip irrigation. Only local non-immigrants hired for staff.

Great idea! I think the first thing we need to do is helping citizens to build a green idea. Don't ever using any non-degradable disposable tablewares, but use the eco-friendly paper tableware (http://www.biodegradabletableware.com.cn/) .

One problem with green businesses is that people have to travel to them, producing CO2 the whole way there and back. This goes on the business' pollution output. Unless people walked, rode a bike, or used an electric car to get there.
