    Question Where to start?

    Share |

I am a teacher and am trying to create a grant proposal which, if granted, will be upwards of $3000 for my elementary school. I have been researching online and am becoming even more confused about how to "get the ball rolling." I was thinking about biodegradable lunch trays and getting rid of that awful styrofoam...Not plastic lunch trays though because our cafeteria doesn't have the room for a tray washing system, creating the room and installing one would go over the amount granted I'm sure. I am sort of on my own here and would really appreciate any green ideas with pricing estimates. Thanks so much for your time!

Wow, I am surprised no one answered you on this one. I see it was posted quite some time ago, but for the future here are a few of my ideas that I have either seen in our area or that have been sucessful elsewhere.
*The tray idea was a good one
    *Composting program
*Light sensors-that tell if people are in the room or not (some buildings already have these, but older ones do not)
*We have an amazing garden program that has really taken off. "Project Sprout" It is pretty much volunteer oriented between students, parents, community members, community businesses. The food grown goes to the cafeteria which is a nutritional benefit, not to mention all the other benefits the community gets through gardening
    *Complete light bulb overhaul
The list can go on and on...

With those few ideas I am left wondering what you ended up doing for your grant?

How big is that school anyway that you'd need a tray washing system? I'm no expert but being that what you have in mind leans towards being "green" won't you be more ecofriendly if you didn't have a washer system?
