It seemed that manufacturers concentrate more on hybrids these days. What ever happened to hydrogen powered cars? Its seems like there focus now is hybrids. In 2007 and 2008 there was all this news and now nothing. Will hydrogen fuel cell cars ever come?

I think leaks easily develops in hydrogen powered machines since it is not easy to store it. In fact, it is very dangerous and hard to detect in case of fire.

There will never be a Hydrogen powered car. Some prototype are fueled by burning natural gas. It pollutes just as bad as any car except that pollution comes out a stack at your house and not the cars tail pipe.

One possible reason why hydrogen-powered cars are not yet fully realized is probably because hybrid cars passes the 30mpg limit as well as small diesel engines.

Burning hydrogen creates water vapor which contributes to the greenhouse effect much more than carbon dioxide. It doesn't make sense to replace one greenhouse gas with another that we understand even less.

I thought that Honda was running a hydrogen car program in select test markets like san francisco or sandiego? Anyone know what happened to that?

That is the biggest problem faced by the people who have engineered the hydrogen cars.

I would sure love to be the person who develops the hydrogen storage solution to make this happen.

With all the amazing discoveries in this world , brilliant technology, and genius minds, isn't it embarrasing that we waste billions of useful dollars on wars, etc when we could spend it on research and create magnificence in cars that don't leak and are environmentally friendly.
Just shows where most of the priorites of big business are directed.

IMO I think it's not so much on whether it causes pollution or adds up more to the greenhouse effect, but rather people are trying to make hydrogen-powered cars work as an alternative to fossil fuel. Besides, what better to use than what we have the most on this planet? That's water.
