Default The future of green cars

So what do you think will be the future of green cars? Will it be electric or solar-powered automobiles in the near future? Hydrogen-powered maybe? I think the hybrids - electric and fossil fuel-based - should start moving in soon. It shouldn't be too long before the cost of each is gonna come down and it would be more affordable by many people.

What do you think guys?

I'd say in 10 years or more. Thinks like this don't happen that fast. It's gonna take time. Hybrid cars pretty much. Lots running around already. But I'd go for electric if ever.

The first step is to really lower the emissions of these Green House Gases (GHG) from our automobiles down to reasonable levels. Still lots of countries out there whose governments are not so concerned about this. If you add em all up, it would still be a considerable amount GHG emissions from vehicles that are adding up to the problem.

Default need a portfolio of different measures

There is no single solution to the issue. The most rapid is to reduce the miles driven, i.e. develop public transport.
second is to transit towards hybrids, as they at least emit less carbon (the batterie recycling issue needs to be reviewed)
I agree with Jeanne, I see a completely electric car at the end with electicity primarily from wind, solar and other no carbon solutions that we may be able to find. H2 maybe? Algue may also be on the agenda, but needs to be in balance with nature, not pollute water etc.
Importance is the mix and balance.

Would we ever reach a stage where even our technology can make use of fossil fuel lessen the emission of carbon into the atmosphere significantly? Have you guys ever thought of that?

dwest44 is right, lessen emissions from petrol fueled cars is at the moment probably the most important part of the carbon reduction portfolio. A lot of that kind of technology change has already happened during the past 20 years with catalysators, etc. and the hybrid motor is in a sense the continuation of this technological efficiency gain. In the meantime there is nothing wrong with developing public transport, it is kind of more social than seeing all these people sitting alone in their little boxes.
