I think it depends on what you order from restaurants and your budget. Sometimes I don’t think dinning out would cost more than buying food from grocery stores, because you eat leftovers for at least 2 meals. What about you?

 ........ Thanks
I prefer to eat meals at home than outside. You can save money at the same time you'll be satisfied of the food you eat. You can also budget your money well if you prepare your own food.
I often think the same. The chinese restaurants around here are so cheap that I simply don't know how they can do it.
When you cook at home you also have to consider the price of the groceries, the gas/electricity you use for cooking and the washing up!

Yes, it depends on the restaurant. Fast food is cheap, but it does not have to be fast food. We have a nice Chinese restaurant nearby that offers a great discount for lunch time. A good meal is about $6, and usually, there is enough to bring home leftovers.
I always wonder this too!
I think it all comes down to control when eating out. It can be as cheap as cooking at home if you are aware of your meal options. Having a couple beers or drinks while out to lunch or dinner will double your bill. Also, having a appetizer, meal, and dessert can cost a ton. Consider sharing an appetizer and/or dessert. Happy Eating!
Definitely has been cheaper to eat at home for myself. I cut my food costs nearly in 1/2 by doing so.
It is alot cheaper to eat at home depends on the food you eat. I've found going to places that have large serving and taking them home for a few meals tends to save me money also. I think people eat alot more food than what they need also, so listen to your body.
We have to consider the number of people who will eat. What if it's a big-size family of say more than 6 people? That's a lot of mouths to feed. It might save up on having to cook breakfast and dinner at home. Don't you think?
It CAN be cheaper, of course. But what about health issues? It's alarming to think of how much sodium, butter, etc. is used in some of the meals you get at a restaurant. Many packaged foods are just as bad in some respects, but if you cook you atleast have control over what you put into your meal.

There are pros and cons to both sides, obviously, but there's one thing no one mentioned that sort of surprises me is how much fossil fuel are you going to burn going out to eat every night? I can shop once a week and get exactly what I want / need and cook it to taste myself. I accell in buying things that I can have ready in under 15 minutes(cooking time) so that isn't a whole lot of cooking. Oh, sure I eat out sometimes, but that's when I really do get tired of the cooking and I consider it a treat and splurge a bit. I can get something real nice at a nice restaurant with the money I've saved and that makes it all worthwhile to me. Besides, I know the horrorsthat go on in resaurant kitchens and I'm justifiably picky when I do go out to eat. Safer/healthier at home yall.
It's a toss up! But just being curious, for the next month, I am going to write down the money spent on eating out and eating home. Try it yourself! Depending on where you live makes a difference on food bills and eating out also.
