    Default Reusing Plastic?

    Share |

I've been reusing some plastic containers for food storage, but recently there were news stories that shed a bad light on recyclable plastic with the number 7 on it, so that's caused me to not use some containers.

I'm referring to peanut butter jars, etc. Do you reuse plastic like this or do you use recycled glass containers whenever possible?

I do. For one, I don't really like buying products with plastic packaging. The less plastic packaging you buy, the less you have to deal with. But for those that I buy, I make sure to reuse it. I bore holes into them and use them as pots for my plants. Some smaller plastic containers become my wife's storage for her scrapbooking materials. Other become coin banks. There are a lot of things you can do with plastic containers, really, all you have to do is go wild with your imagination

On that note, I would like to advocate the use of green bags. You've probably seen supermarkets that offer them. These reusable grocery bags are made of synthetic plastic and other organic materials that ensures that they will be sturdy enough for repeated use and if and when they break, they will decompose!

i am doing the same thing as well. i am reusing plastic bottles by putting juice on them. actually i buy plastic bottles that can be washed so that i will not be able to produce a lot of garbage. not only bottles but bags as well. my sister used to lecture me about environmental friendly habits that could change the world. to think that she is a decade younger than me. hahahhaha
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.

Yeah I do. I am using plastic containers for the same things as some of you guys. To store some coins or other odds and ends small enough to fit. Those OJs that come in plastic bottles I reuse once empty to store water for drinking. That's about it.

i believe some plastic containers can be quite harmful to your health, so i think it will be wise not to re-use them. instead of re-using them i think we can buy non-plastic containers.

Not always, but I try to do my best. I have used plastic jars from coffee or peanut butter to temporarily store other foods, like rice or sugar. They don't work very well for grains or pasta, I don't use them for that.

    Default crafts and reusing plastics

i remember reading "the world without us" great book...and really learning about plastics and how much of it is already in the world and already is in the ocean. i mean i guess we really can't do that much about it now anyways since there's so much of it already existing in nature.

I'm glad to see that there are a lot of people using old plastics to do crafts like now in the holiday season i've been seeing a lot of these snowflake decorations made out of the plastic can holders..i believe we have martha stewart to think for that but yes...better than nothing.
