    Only 2 of 5 are even a tiny bit green. Wash dishes by hand once a week??? Dry clothes on a line once a week???? I do that all the time. How about living on solar power?? How about one or none with having kids??? How about minimal driving and only with a hybrid or electric vehicle, or bicycling or walking to work if in an urban area? How about growing more of your own food?
    It is tough for us to make "green New Years Resolutions" when we already live a totally green life.
    Here is a better site, with a lot of great articles;

    Each of us is at our own stage in the journey to be more green. No one does this overnight, and I hope to encourage those who are just starting out that there are SIMPLE things for anyone to do. I do plan to grow more of my own food, and other things a bit more challanging, but my audience is geared towards those who don't live a sustainable life.

    I understand. However, we have less than 10 years to reduce emissions 90% to prevent "thermageddon" (Anthropocene thermal maximum) with its ELE (est. 85-87% species extinction) between 2300 and 3500AD. We have around 30 years to reduce our world population to less than 5 billion to prevent a devastating 90-95% cascading population "crash" with its attendant horrors.
    I suppose my New Year's Resolution is to keep expounding the urgency of change needed. Too little, too late, will not be good enough for the survival of future generations. Too little, too late will not be good enough to prevent the extinction of most life on Earth as a result of human actions.
    This is no real put down of living crunchy. It is a statement of essential facts without rancor.

    I guess if people are living a totally green life, then it is imperative that they reach the people who are not at that level. If we can teach people to do small things, then next year they can do bigger things, and keep doing bigger and bigger things and share with their spheres of influence and really make a big change in the world. If we look at small changes as "too little too late" we miss the chance for growth. Change always comes about slowly, but you never know which small seed you plant in someone's mind will stick and cause dramatic change.

    I will continue to look at the world with hope and optimism and that we are not doomed for extinction. I will continue to reach out to those around me who think carrying a reusable bag is a hassle and encourage them to try it. I will share my fresh herbs and veggies with my neighbors and encourage them to start gardens of their own. I will show them that hanging laundry can be a quiet time to unwind and not a chore. Living a suburban life, I feel like I have a huge opportunity to impact a large population of people living unconsciously about how their actions affect our earth.

    I will continue to aspire to be as green as people like all of you, and look to you all for guidance and advice, and hopefully not ridicule. I felt really discouraged yesterday, but then I saw the people's lives I am influencing, and realized that I am not trying to impress the uber green, I am trying to make connections with those who are not, and change the world one suburbanite at a time. Thank you for challanging me to carry on with my mission, and I look forward to learning from this forum more ways to challenge myself and share it with the people in my sphere of influence.

    livingcrunchy,

    To make any real difference, the people of the World must safely recycle 100% of all human-generated waste materials, and peacefully reduce the human population with famly planning education.

    Good for you Livingcrunchy. We all need to start some where. We started a garden last year and this winter i made a system to store all my water from my roof and use it to water my garden. I cant wait for the spring.
    Val all 5 things are green. If you want more people to go green then stop putting them down when they are trying to make changes.

    StoneV -

    We live in the Northern Hemisphere but we've been having springtime in January, so I wonder what kind of summer will it be for anyone's garden?

    Meanwhile, I pledge to go right on trying to persuade people of their need to safely recycle 100% of all human-generated waste materials, and to peacefully reduce the human population with family planning education.
