It is hard to understand why it is so difficult for people in power to understand and determine whether they should do growth or development. In most cases economic growth is explained at a macro-level but it still carries the assumption that profitability determines fitness of businesses and hence national income. It is really important that the emerging economies focus on dvelopment rather than growth such that the current predicament is not perpetuated. The lessons of economic growth have already been learned and its time to take radical action and am glad China is making headway by investing huge amounts of money in renewable energy. Instead of focusing on profit I wish the emerging economics could focus on providing subsistence for all their people, protection against natural and man made disasters, participation, creation, leisure activities to ensure identity and freedom.
