Default What is Green Energy?

Green energy is:

(a) Renewable – Renewable means that once the source is used for energy, it is available to be used over and over again. Fossil fuels are finite. One they are used, they are gone. The wind will always blow, the sun will always shine and we can always grow more corn and other grains to produce ethanol.

(b) Clean – Most green energy sources produce fewer – if any – hydrocarbons that pollute the atmosphere. The generation of green electricity from wind turbines or solar panels produce virtually no green house gases that contribute to the warming of the earth.

(b) Potentially cheaper than other sources of energy once initial equipment costs are considered.

(b) The future power source for the planet – it has to be.

Why is green energy referred to as alternative energy? Wouldn't it make more sense to call it "green," "clean," or "renewable" energy? Just what exactly is green energy an alternative to? Is it an alternative to global warming, dependency on fossil fuels, deforestation, depletion of the earth's resources, extinction of several species, and acid rain?

Green energy is an alternative to the energy human being is currently using.
It's important to consider the impact of our behaviour.
Before thinking of green energy, don't you think we could insulate our house, get double glazing, change our consumption is the first step to be greener.
Green energy is an answer to stop destroy our environment.

Default Pass on the green spirit.

Ok,, so we all know what green energy is. What we are all older than 13 since you have to be older than 13 to enter this forum.
What about people under the age of 13? Doesnt awareness start on a younger age? I found this website where a lot of ways to live green are given and where there is also a big 'kids' corner. they can play games there and stuff,, all to get kids aware too. I find this important. For those of you who do too,, greentimes.com.au

I think green energy is the only and only way to save our earth. So I suggest we should participate or conduct a Green Go revolution to bring awarness among the people.

That was really nice. And yes, people should look up to it now as the way instead of a way forward. Over these past decades we've already witnessed changes in the weather that have been really harmful and are a result of not using green energy.

So i guess its really what we need now a green energy ..to prevent any future damage in our Ozone layer and the environment..however creating a solar panels in houses or any buildings are very costly.. is it true? how much then? I am interested on this one too..

I agree with you on this sapna..its a must I think..what we really need is for the government to initiate in the information dissemination and creating an agency to plan and even help us providing a solar panels in our respective houses..

You know what, I've already watched a lot of documentary on how to make green energy. From wind energy, solar energy, heat energy and so on. So what's my point? The government always says we need to have green sources of energy right? And yet there are many possible ways to do that now. And yet they always say the same thing, its impossible to do so. We lack of etc. and so on and so on. If there's a will, there's a way. Now obviously there's a way, I just don't know about the will.

It could be that some forms of green energy or alternative fuel can be too costly to operate and maintain in the long run compared to the traditional ones. Say for example solar energy. How large should solar panel fields be in order to produce that much energy to run a city or even just portions of it? Technology has to be improved some more to make these solar panels increase its power output and a more efficient conversion.

I dissagree, green energy is not the only way to save our earth. Green energy is just not efficient enough for our energy consumption needs. At the moment we consume way too much energy to only rely on renewable/Green energy and we have not figured out a way to better use sunlight and wind power. Right now we are only able to use Photovoltaic cells to convert sun light into energy and wind turbines to generate electricity. It is a start, and we are on a way to finding better ways to use the resources that we have. When you think about Solar energy you have to think of the source, the "Sun". It decides whether to give life or take it away. For those of you that do not know, the Sun does this by creating fusion, the sun Fuses atoms together during this process it releases neutrons and this is energy. We are able to mimic this but are not able to convert it into useable electricity. So wouldn't this eliminate " Green " energy?

Thanks for giving us the meaning of what is energy all about ..it is very helpful to us..especially those who don't know what energy means and its implications to our environment..Yeah I agree with you fossils fuels are finite but of course they are everywhere and we can utilize them also..

Yeah developing a solar panels are costly and we need the help of the government to produce it for national consumption..but the problem is does the government has the political will to do so? what do you think?
