Default Is the Recent Oil Spill Even More Reason For Renewable Energy?

The Deepwater Gulf of Mexico oil spill of 2010 is rapidly moving towards the status of the worst accident in U.S. history, and as the disaster moves into its third week a lot of questions are still unanswered, the most obvious being, when is this thing going to stop spewing?

So as Republicans speculate on response times and British Petroleum and the Federal Government point fingers the oil continues to spill and questions about safety regulations in regards to offshore drilling begin to arise. But one has to ask, has this happened in the past?

    Did we learn anything? E N V I R O G Y

The basic reason why oil compnies are willing to take such terrible risks with undersea drilling is because the public need for oil keeps growing, and the alternative sources of wind, solar, geothermal and wave energy could not keep up with that growing demand because the wind does not always blow, the sun does not always shine, volcanos are not everywhere available and waves are only tidally accessible. Even under the best technological development, no energy source can possibly supply a relentlessly growing population of 7 billion and counting. THAT is the problem. Peacefully reduce the human population to a number in balance with Nature and there will be plenty of resources for everyone. A popular maxim among businessmen is "A growing economy is a healthy economy." Not any more. Today the truth is: "A growing economy on a shrinking planet has no future." To survive, we need a stable economy for a stable population.
