Wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal seem mostly benign -- in part because they are still a small part of the energy equation. But when green gets big, it can be controversial.

No energy source can possibly keep up with the needs of the growing human population, not oil, not coal, not natural gas and least of all green energy. Obvioulsly, what is needed is a smaller human population and a stable economy, which is possible with family planning education. But the big corporations want to grow their economic power forever regardless of consequences, which are becoming more evident as the biosphere goes into convulsions with more tornados, floods and droughts than ever before.
Absolutely, the population must go down to long term sustainable. In "Storms of My Grandchildren", Hansen advocates solar, wind, tidal and wave, but for most of the energy to go to Gen 4 reactors like they had safe and good designs for in 1994, but got rid of because of the anti-any-nuclear lobby who could not understand fast reactor tech and its positive use of previous generation reactors' spent fuel for hundreds of years, then able to actually use sea water after that. Plus, the powerful fossil fuel interests wanted to keep on profiting, and still do, without caring about the biosphere.
