if you live in an area that uses oil for heating your home you can go to SavOnHeatingOil.com they have a product called a catalyst that will clean the oil and uses less oil to heat the home. so it helps the earth and your wallet. it too is an investment that pays back over time but usually only about 2 years. Not bad and it's no where near the cost of solar panels.
We use an electric car, although this does increase your electric bill, it certainly reduces your CO2 emissions and cost of petrol.
The other thing we do is to look and think about what we are buying, do we need it and is it packaged in an environmentally friendly way.
I replaced all the old energy guzzling light bulbs with super efficient bulb and cut my electric bill by almost $50 per month(Lots of lights in my house). I also replaced my refrigerator with an energy efficient model. It's kind of fun. I've gotten the kids involved with the energy saving project and they think its awesome.
i bought an eco Kettle seeing as its used 365 days of the year. energy saving of about 20-30% also put radiator reflectors behind my radiators to prevent heat escaping to the walls, i bought a wind-up mp3 , sewn a old sheet on to curtains to add extra layer of insulation. close all the curtains at night it keeps the heat in. insulation on the roof cos you lose loads of energy there.
Cut toothpaste tubes in half when you have squeezed everything out of them you'll get a few more go's.
Do the same with shampoo & conditioner bottles, it takes i good stab with a scissors to pierce it, so becareful, but you get a good lot extra out of it.
Squash your toilet paper rolls so the tubes are flat, you don't use as much because it doesn't roll as easily.
If you have free shelves and gaps in your freezer, crumple up newspapers to fill it. Its cost more money to cool a space of air.
If you have any tips yourself to add or want to find more give us a buzz,
cheers thanks
