Default One step to a Green Home

One easy step to a Green Home is by having 2 garbage bins in your house. Why 2? One is for regular trash. The second is for recyclable waste such as aluminum, paper and plastic. Teach and encourage your family, especially your children to always put trash in the proper bin.

Going green doesn't have to be very hard. You can start by doing this and recycle away!

Great tip Nina! If I might add something, you can also go green by reusing those plastic bags instead of throwing them immediately to the recycling bin. What you can do to is to use these plastic bags to line your small garbage cans found in your bedrooms or bathroom, instead of buying black trash bags all the time. You can save much on this and help reduce the use of plastic in your home as well.

I reuse my plastic bags like this all the time, until they are well worn out.

That is a good tip, I have two bins in my kitchen at the moment, but one is for stuff to go on the compost heap and the other is for regular rubbish.

I am assuming you don't live in an area where that is the norm then. In Toronto for example we have 3 bins which are mandatory. There is the regular garbage bin, a recycling bin, and my favorite, the green bin, which is all organic waste that can then be collected and mass composted.

As for the bags idea, we have been doing that ever since I was a little kid, not for any concern to the environment though, just for the simple fact that they are free. Also if you buy milk in bags, then when you finish each one, instead of chucking it, cut open the top, clean it, and bam you've got a free sandwich bag. Also buy good quality ziplock freezer bags that are more robust, then clean them out after you use them each time and you never have to go and buy ziplocks again no matter how often you use them.
