We have used this insulation for our new house, it is made of shredded old newspapers. They are shredded into the finest pieces, almost like dust, so there was a lot of dust when it was being blown in, but it works great - very efficient.

Are there any empirical studies on the effectivness of shreded newspaper? Seems promising from what you have described.
Interesting use of old newspapers. Would be a phenomenal medium to provide green insulation. However, with the advent of the internet and declining newspaper circulation, this medium is not for the long term...

As I understand it they use all manner of shredded paper sources. The legal industry would be one such continuing source! We worked on one job where they used this insulation. It is much easier to fish a wire through than the fiberglass, and a lot less itchy!
