    Default Americans Believe Global Warming Exists and Vote Their Dollars on Green Brands

    WASHINGTON, March 24, 2009 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ ----Green Seal Inc. and EnviroMedia Social Marketing, with over 32 years experience in the environmental field, presented research today at the National Press Club on global warming and green buying.
    Presenting the research were sustainability leaders Dr. Arthur Weissman, President/CEO, Green Seal Inc., Kevin Tuerff, Principal/President, EnviroMedia Social Marketing and Linda Chipperfield, V.P., Marketing/Outreach of Green Seal Inc.
    Overall, just 3 percent of the public does not believe climate change exists. 52 percent of Americans believe climate change is caused by human activities. Twenty-nine percent believe climate change is occurring naturally, and 15 percent say climate change needs to be scientifically proven. And more than any other age group, 64 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds--an estimated audience of 76 million people-- believe global warming is caused by human activities revealing a clear generation gap.
    82 percent of consumers (four out of five) say they are still buying green products and services today--which sometimes cost more--even in the midst of a U.S. recession.
    Half of the 1,000 people surveyed say they are buying just as many green products now as before the economic downturn, while 19 percent say they are buying more green products. Fourteen percent say they are buying fewer environmentally green products.

    Other key findings in the new research conducted by telephone in a random-digit-dial sample:....

    Here in the Philippines there is also a push to find alternative methods of power especially in larger cities like Manila or Cebu City or Davao City. But some politicians have little concern for this problem, it is always cheaper to look the other way

    This sure has changed!! The last report I read has Americans down to 30% or less who believe in AGW. Since the article above, skeptics, paid or not, have had an equal or better number of articles rather than reflecting the 97% scientific consensus of AGW. It has become a taboo subject in Congress. People have not only been influenced by skeptic falsehoods, but have been dumbing down for some time in schools, mainly from the fact that the lowest spectrum of IQ are over-reproducing here and/or immigrating to the USA.
    Big business corruption of politicians has played a big role and they also have corrupted the media to a certain extent, IMHO. You just don't see as many articles supporting AGW and stating the changes needed to lower HGHGs, or the time is of the essence nature of mitigating AGW. The economy has taken a hit, and it is known that actually doing enough in time will hurt the economy even worse. People think only of the near future and don't care that in the long term, the ecology will collapse and the economy with it.
    Green trinkets are profiteered, turning people off.
    Then the people's mentality;

    Val,

    I am sorry I must agree with the writer Joe Smit. He is right about people. I see it every day. But I feel obligated as a citizen to keep on trying to warn people in time to avert the impending catastrophe when the biosphere can no longer absorb the ever-growing masses of garbage, sludge, junk, chemical waste, smoke and fumes spewed up into thr air, dumped in growing mountains of landfill and out into the global ocean where there is so much plastic debris the sea birds and mammals are eating it and dying. But most of our U.S. Congress is so corrupt they refuse to listen, and the EPA is under constant pressure to compromise environmental safety standards. What I find so discouraging is that almost 100% of the leaders still advocate growing the economy, even President Obama, who otherwise is doing the best job he can working hard every day traveling and conferring with other leaders, but all for the purpose of solving the debt crisis by growing the World economy. I guess growing is a human instinct. So, the "Growthbusters" really have a job ahead of them.
