Shell will donate $500,000 to the first phase of the Shamrock Island project, which has struggled to gain funding in the past due to government budget cuts. Erosion has hit the tiny island hard and continues to threaten the habitat of many rare and recovering bird species. The project seeks to bring in sand to rebuild beaches and replant grasses to protect is from further erosion.
