Since cofferdam technology already exists, and since the oil is already under pressure under the seabed, why not use that method instead of pumping the oil more dangerously at high speed and risking accidents? Drill the well, then immediately place the dome over the hole and let the undersea pressure fill the dome, then pump the oil from the dome. That might be slower, but perhaps a lot safer?
