Because the oil well was drilled a mile deep, no deep sea divers can go that deep to guide the dome accurately on top of the drill hole. So, robot machinery is all they have to try to do the job, and it may not work. It didn't work when they tried to repair the blow out preventer machine, so why would it succeed any better with a huge coffer dam? I hope I'm wrong and they do cap the spill successfully. If not, goodbye Gulf of Mexico and hello Atlantic Ocean!
