Italy to ban plastic bags in New Year
Rome (CNN) -- Italy is a nation known as much for its food as for the ubiquitous plastic bag, given out freely with every purchase around the country and often left to litter streets or landfills. A new ban coming into effect January 1, however, may change that.

This ban is a great example of actions that should be taken in the U.S, and many other nations. I'm sure they will be unpopular, but it does more good than harm.

It gives me joy when government intervene in green issues and plastic packaging is one of the greatest threat to the supply chain development. I live in UK and many people have adopted the permanent bag attitude. I take my bags everytime I do shopping and its not even a hustle it has become a routine. I feel like I left something if I do not pick them up. However, a lot of our products in supermarkets still have so much packaging that warrants my concern. USA as a major consumer should set the trend but I think many small contries are taking over in initiating solutions that matter for people. More still needs to be done to reduce the packaging culture that has evolved over time. I hope everyone picks up a bag when they go shopping!!
