ContributorNetwork - Repairing a nuclear power plant reactor has to be a delicate proposition. Right now, the spotlight has been thrown on Reactors 1 and 2 at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant near Okuma, Japan. Workers at the plant have been working around the clock to cool down fuel rods within the reactors; the goal is to prevent the escape of more radioactive material. However, a recent report by the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum and the Tokyo Electric Power Company is not encouraging. Although initial plans were to have the two reactors back in decent shape within a short period of time, it appears that seawater damage was more extensive than was originally surmised. As a result, it is now expected that neither reactor will be repaired for another few days.
