ContributorNetwork - Shell was being forced to do more damage control on Monday, after reports surfaced that it took the company two days to publicly admit to an accident that occurred last Wednesday on its Gannet Alpha platform, located in the North Sea. The resulting oil spill was not disclosed to the public until Friday. Shell has defended its actions by explaining that government officials were informed about the situation immediately, but that it did not have enough details at that time to go to the public with an official statement.
