Because of our human growth syndrome, the human population continues to grow, now 7 billion and counting, so most of those people need electricity, most of which is produced by burning coal that spews up tons of polluting smoke, and most of those people drive cars that are fueled by gasoline produced from oil that spews out tons of polluting exhaust from their engines, and most of those people use products produced by factories that spew tons of smoke up into the air. All that growing mass of polluting smoke, fumes and gases floats around the World and blocks the upward escape of a small percentage of the heat generated by the sun, so it's called the "green house effect" like the heat trapped inside a green house. The result is "global warming" that raises the temperature of the ocean, which is so sensitive it is causing more severe hurricanes, tornadoes and floods; and this global warming is also causing longer and more severe droughts; all of which is happening because the Earth is a "biosphere" a living planetary organism that responds to stimulus like any smaller living thing within its realm of land and sea. Thus, our 7 billion people are now producing so much garbage, sludge, junk, chemical waste, smoke and fumes that the Earth can no longer safely absorb it all and go on being a life-supporting planet; and it is responding with ever more violent storms and floods and more severe droughts as it struggles to heal itself the same way any living organism does, the same way you do when you "catch a cold" and your temperature goes up, you cough up phlegm, sneeze and shiver with a chill as you struggle to fight off the virus that has invaded your body. So the Earth is struggling to fight off its human disease that I call "too much of a good thing turning bad". There is nothing wrong with producing all the things that make our lives easier and happier, but there are just way too many people producing way too much of it and too carelessly.

So, what can we do?

1. Safely recycle 100% of all human-generated waste products.
2. Peacefully reduce the human population with family planning education.
3. Replant and protect the great natural forests, and clean up and protect the global ocean.

Then the biosphere will return to normal and we humans will be able to live in peace and balance for many thousands of years into the future of planet Earth (which is another subject of discussion).
