Harnessing nature’s solar cells (Patexia.com)
Within a few years, people in remote villages in the developing world may be able to make their own solar panels, at low cost, using otherwise worthless agricultural waste as their raw material. That’s the vision of MIT researcher Andreas Mershin, who is part of a team of researchers creating electricity by harnessing the power of the tiny structures within plant cells that carry out photosynthesis.

Interesting!! Just taking apparently inexpensively extracted plant molecules, somehow giving them "life" to change photons to electricity on some glass or metal it is painted on, apparently made weatherproof, and apparently easily wired into a usable voltage. I don't see why it should just be for the third world. It should be for everyone, especially the biggest polluters. We'll just have to watch this development. I would like to see weatherproof UL listed 12VDC nominal (16-18VDC) mountable panels made with this waste material from plants and other waste material for the frames, back and front and wires. Something equivalent that uneducated people could build, and with ones built, low profit margin.

The idea being that if the inventors can get a lot of people to invest money in perfecting the process they'll soon be rich, whether or not it ever becomes operational (!)
