So I just came across these Bamboo plates, some of you probably already know about them, but since I didn't see it anywhere on this site I figured I should post.
While they are disposable they are also reusable, they just require careful washing with as little water as possible. I've gotten up to 8 uses with the ones I bought. I got them to use on picnics when the hike was over a few miles. They are lightweight and strong enough to hold up in my pack.
The reason they are "green" is that they are made with the bamboo sheath, which is a bark like leaf that grows on certain varieties of bamboo. The bamboo doesn't need to be cut down, they just use the sheaths that have naturally fallen off the bamboo. They are also biodegradable and compostable.
It would be a good product for restaurants to use for takeaway.
Here is the website that uses the sheath instead of cutting down the whole Bamboo. It's the only one I've found that uses the sheath.
