Don't use fiberglass insulation if you want it green. This type of insulation comes with adhesives that are carcinogenic. It can also be toxic when the fumes are inhaled. Plus fiberglass production consumes loads of energy.

    You have these options:
    1) Recycled Denim - Treated with boric acid to have fire resistant properties and vermin. Boric acid is eco-friendly.
    2) Recycled Cellulose - Treated the same with option #1. How it is applied is the difference.
    3) Sheep's Wool - One of the best insulation solutions but can be quite expensive. Lots of good properties including naturally fire resistant, non-itchy & great sound deadening quality to mention a few.
    4) Soy - Made from Soy Oil. Lasts very long, no need to re-fit your roof with it.

try come up with a grass covered roof but i think that was pretty expensive because it has layers of insultions you have to put in order for it to block heat and also another material that will block the water absorbed by the plants from destroying your roof's inner surface.

Boric acid is safe enough even if it is used also as an insecticide. Also can be used as an antiseptic to treat minor burns and cuts. A good use for it too is in kitchens to shoo away those pesky roaches and ants.

how about something that is affordable in a cold environment. Denim wouldnt work well in a real cold invironment and wool is WAY too expensive. Is blown in insulation way better, would a tin roof be better than shingle? etc
