I'm new to the forum and have joined to ask you about a project I'm about to undertake.
Last year I bought my first house, a c.1900 two-up-two-down terrace, with a ground-floor extension - half the width houses the kitchen and bathroom, the other half a "lobby"/utility room. I've been gradually sorting out the inside and garden, and it's coming on quite nicely. The next job is to get the roof of the extension replaced, as although the kitchen/bathroom part is tiled and relatively sound, the lobby is a total botch job flat roof of aged plastic corrugated sheeting, which leaks like a sieve and gets extremely hot in summer (not great as my fridge and freezer are out there) and cold in winter. I'm also going to extend the kitchen into the lobby at the same time. A friend of a friend who is a builder will be doing most of the work (paid - he's not that good a friend!). The other thing that is pertinent is that I will most likely have to sell either at the beginning of next year, or two years after that.
I have three main questions -
a) Is it feasible and acceptable to have a green roof in this situation? How does the weight compare to roof tiles?
b) What "green" lighting would you recommend for the kitchen (I'm thinking maybe LEDs?), and how do I assess how many lights I need?
c) Any suggestions for flooring? The current floor is a revolting stained tile effect vinyl thing, over concrete, which will be getting leveled and a damp-proof layer put in, according to the builder.
Any other suggestions/points/ideas/comments welcome too! But please be gentle, I'm new to all this!
