I'm curious to hear what people think about ridesharing and carpooling as ways to reduce ghg emissions. Full disclosure: I work for a ridesharing website (http://us.amovens.com/), so I'm obviously biased in favor of the practice. But even putting on my objectivity hat, if we assume that 96 million Americans drive alone every day leaving 288,675,000 empty seats (statistics coming from eco-friendly. high mpg micro cars. smart USA, btw, scroll down to their "Beliefs" section), that seems like a lot of unused transportation bandwidth that we could be making better use of.
I'm wondering what people think are the most significant barriers to sharing a ride or carpooling? What would it take to get *you*, personally, to take a passenger or to ride with someone else more frequently, assuming the knowledge that you'd be reducing your carbon footprint isn't enough?
